Important New Bylaw Proposed to Control Emissions of Fine Particulates

The Town of Oakville is planning to implement a by-law to control emissions of fine particulate matter that would protect the health of Oakville residents and the environment from the negative effects of major emissions into the Oakville Airshed. The 900MW power plant being planned by the Ontario Government would be a major source of FPM.

Rally Against The Proroguing of Parliament
Saturday, January 23rd, 1 p.m.
Many Canadians are unhappy that Prime Minister Stephen Harper has prorogued Parliament and more than 206,000 of them have come together in the facebook group Canadians Against Proroguing Parliament. To demonstrate their concern about this issue and to protest against what many feel has been an erosion of democracy in this country and a concentration of power in the Prime Minister’s office by the current PM and by past governments, protests are being organized across the country and in some international locations for Saturday, January 23. In Oakville, the chair of the Oakville Community Centre for Peace, Ecology and Human Rights, Mervyn Russell, will be the keynote speaker at the upcoming “Rally Against the Proroguing of Parliament” on Saturday, January 23 at 1 p.m. at Heritage Park located at 337 Kerr Street opposite MP Terence Young’s office. Other speakers will include James Ede - Oakville NDP Executive member, Marion Schaffer - Green Party activist, Willie Lambert - Oakville and District Labour Council past President and Kim Ford – local activist.
